Hello
My name is Kyla Hislop, and I am an experienced Curator and Museum Professional with 14 years’ experience in the heritage sector. I specialise in developing engaging, inclusive museum interpretation that connect diverse audiences with collections and historic places. I curate design and social history collections, and consult on a wide range of museum and heritage interpretation projects, from individual elements such as object labels, through to large-scale displays and exhibitions.
Specialisms
I specialise in dress history and costume interpretation. My work is underpinned by in-depth research into fashion, design, and material culture ensuring that costumed interpretation is both accurate and meaningful. Through this approach, I support museums and heritage sites to use dress as a powerful interpretive tool that enhances storytelling and audience engagement.

Talks
I also deliver public talks and lectures exploring the more unusual aspects of social history. Recent talks have included the topics of sex and scandal, corsetry and the intimate history of undergarments, spiritualism and séances, and folklore and legends. These talks use historical research to examine belief, behaviour, and social anxieties, offering audiences new ways of understanding the past.
